Defrost thermostat 4387503 is a bimetal defrost thermostat for your refrigerator. is located inside the freezer compartment either directly mounted to the evaporator or indirectly mounted to the evaporator. it shuts off the defrost heaters when the temperature reaches approximately 62°F and resets when the temperature reaches approximately 48°F. It has two wires that connect inline with the heater and a clip on the body of the thermostat that allows it to latch onto the evaporator tubing. It stops the fridge from overheating during the defrost cycle by protecting the evaporator. This clip-on thermostat will sense the temperature increase in the evaporator during the defrost process, and will cycle the defrost heater off after the ice or frost is melted.
